Holiday Books for Reading Aloud

posted Dec 9, 2010 1:54 AM by Read Aloud Denver
Gather around the fireplace with your blankets, cup of tea or hot cocoa. Denver Public Libraries has compiled a wonderful list of Holiday Books to Read Aloud with Family and Friends about the blessings of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, the Winter Solstice and everything fun, merry and bright about this most joyful time of year. Here's just one sampling of the 42 books on the list. Enjoy!

Stick Man
Julia Donaldson (2009) , 32 pages
Audience:
   Preschool
   Primary (K-3rd grade)

Stick Man lives in the family tree
With his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.
One day he wakes early and goes for a jog.
Stick Man, oh Stick Man, beware of the dog!

Poor Stick Man leaves his home and is forced to go on many adventures when all he wants to do is get back home. He is fetched, races down a river, becomes the arm of a snowman, and finally, IS PUT IN THE KINDLING PILE!!! Will Stick Man ever make it home? A surprising new friend may be able to help.  Librarian review written by Gwen
