Take the pledge today! Target is asking caring adults to pledge time to read with the children in their lives. Look for Books, check out the Activity Center and read the Tips for Success here. Target is Committed to Reading: According to the most recent available data, one in four kids in the U.S. did not graduate from high school. The odds were even worse for African-American and Hispanic students, nearly 40% of whom did not receive a diploma.1 So, how can we help? Research proves that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a significant milestone on the path to graduation. Third grade is a turning point at which children make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn.2 1. Stillwell, R. (2010).
