Happy Spring, Duck!

Looking for a fun springtime book? Check out Hit the Ball Duck by Jez Algorough (Kane/Miller). This is part of Alborough's Duck series, this time about spring training.

"Duck and friends go out one day

With a bat, a ball and a glove to play.

Duck hits the ball - but where does it fall?

On a branch in the tree - now they can’t play at all.

Frog has an idea, Duck lends a hand

But nothing turns out quite as planned."

I recently observed Judith Kantor, Library Media Teacher at the UCLA Lab School, read this book aloud to a group of kindergarteners. I could tell by the kids' reactions and comments that they were not only enjoying the story's delightful humor but also understood the value of cooperation. The rhythm and rhyme are fun and help kids develop phonological awareness. Other Duck books in the series include Duck in the Truck, Super Duck, Fix-It Duck, Duck to the Rescue and more.
